Why Am I So Passionate About Gun Violence Prevention and Community Policing?
The statistics were stacked against me but they did not define me. I want to help others in our community reach their full potential too. Our community is filled with people who defied the odds and we can impact the next generation to continue that legacy.
For years I have advocated for laws and policies to create safer communities and a more equitable justice system. I asked legislators to pass laws on reforms to the criminal justice system and community policing practices that would refocus limited resources on safety, not mass incarceration. I am taking my message to our leaders in Annapolis and Washington, DC because if they don't see us and hear us, they will not elevate us.
Safer neighborhoods, world-class schools, quality healthcare, and thriving businesses are the priority needs for our community. I want to help put the pieces in place for all Marylanders that protect our children's future, home values, and natural resources while placing our families on a path to economic and educational success. I am committed to doing the work and I know you are too.

Legislative district 23 is located entirely within Prince George's County. The district stretches from Rosaryville State Park at the southern end to South Laurel at the northern end. The district mainly runs along the Route 301 (Crain Highway) corridor. All or parts of several cities and towns are within the district including Bowie, Kettering, South Laurel, Marlton, Mitchellville, and Upper Marlboro.
